Two large areas of common land on the south-eastern fringe of Harlow, either side of the A414 and linked by a pedestrian underpass. They are mainly open grassland, parts of which are grazed by horses and parts cut for hay, so have a diversity of wild flowers.
There are patches of woodland on Harlow Common, one just east of the A414 and another surrounding the lake. The southern fringe of Latton Common is wooded also, mainly oak.
There is a network of footpaths, including the Forest Way long-distance path that runs all the way through from west to east.
Visiting
Access from Harlow Common or from Latton Common Road, reached from the A414 northbound by turning right (then via Potter Street)) or left (then via Trotters Road) respectively at the roundabout where the A414 meets Southern Way (A1169), i.e. the first roundabout north of M11 junction 7. SatNav: CM17 9ND.
Frequent service except Sundays by bus route M15 from Harlow Town stn to Potter Street. Route 500 from Romford and 501 from Brentwood runs hourly via Potter Street except Sundays.
Accessible at all times.
Summer for wild flowers and dragonflies around the lake and ponds.
